Importance of a beautiful smile in human relations is an undeniable fact. Today, many adult individuals are in request of an orthodontic treatment in order to improve their look and health. Concerns of adults about orthodontic treatments are towards bad look of dental braces and treatment inefficiency after childhood ages. However, thanks to the advancements of dentistry today, the necessity and importance of orthodontic treatment is well known. Recently, %25 of orthodontic patients is adults. Nowadays, aesthetic braces and brackets are being used and almost invisible treatments can be done. Also, ‘lingual orthodontic technique’ (incognito) is developed recently. Aesthetic problems are totally over with this technique.

INCONGITO SYSTEM

Lingual orthodontics is an orthodontic treatment method applied on the back of the teeth shortly. The word ‘lingual’ means the tongue and its area in Latin, defining the orthodontic treatment applied on the back of the teeth in the area of the tongue. Incognito treatment is a commercial name of one of the methods in lingual orthodontics. Just as in other methods of lingual orthodontics, braces and brackets of incognito is inserted on the back side of teeth. The biggest advantage of incognito and other lingual orthodontic treatment methods is that it is usable in all cases, in contrast with Invisalign method.

Incognito apparatus is designed personally and produced separately for each patient. On the contrary to bracket and braces produced and used for all other orthodontic treatment methods, everything in incognito system is produced by golden composites personally for patient’s mouth. Briefly, measurements of patient’s mouth are sent abroad to a center in Germany and sent to our country after being produced via special computed software.

Another feature which separates incognito from other lingual orthodontic treatment methods is that brackets produced personally for each patient are not attached to the back of the teeth directly; they are inserted on a base. Therefore, back of the teeth are covered with a golden surface and the risk of lack of oral hygiene and decay formation is reduced. Thus, it is easier to get used to.

Incognito is the most common lingual orthodontic treatment method in the world. It can only be applied by orthodontists who possess a certain certificate which is earned by special education. The only disadvantage of incognito is its high cost just as in other lingual orthodontic systems.

Especially incognito method is a perfect alternative treatment method for those with aesthetic priorities (politicians, professionals, artists, sportive etc) who avoid the treatment due to aesthetic concerns.
